Sigmund and Carl 003
The Oedipus Complex is a central tenet in Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory, describing a boy's unconscious desire for their mother and feelings of jealousy and rivalry toward their father. I'm not entirely convinced by this idea, and its received a lot of criticism over the years.
Freud was heavily focused on sexuality as a driving force in a person's behaviour. There's a big section on it in Episode 78 of the podcast - https://theobservingi.com/078-sigmund-freud-psychoanalysis-and-why-you-want-to-have-sex-with-your-mother/
Give it a listen if you want to find out the nuts and bolts of this idea, and let me know where you stand. Do you agree with Freud, or do you think the idea hasn't aged well?
Much love,
David
